Norfolk Machine Knitter's Club

September 12th was a terrific meeting!

We got to welcome a new member, (Rita Stratford) and had some interesting conversations.

Our club was contacted by a woman named Julie Sinden, who has a business making and selling knitted and then felted items like slippers and mittens.  Her business is called “For the Love of Colour” (https://www.instagram.com/theloveofcolour). She had contacted us about seeing if any of our knitters were interested in small knitting projects (that she would supply yarn for, and pay for) to then be felted and sold by her. It turns out that she may have the people she needs already, but good to know that there may be a sourse for some of us with free time!

During show and tell, Hazel showed us a quick and easy small project that she had been working on for Elf style hats that do double duty as wine bottle toppers. See the image below. Ben followed with some swatch sample that he had made when he started to look into plating, on the main bed, with tuck stitch and with slip stitch. That started a flurry of discussion. Ben has expressed interest in doing a plating demo for November’s meeting.

For December, we discussed, possible doing a knit-in, where we could all make some simple touques and/or scarves to be donated to the church to distribute to people in need within our community. Great way to cull the stash, and do some good for those in need during the holiday season. For the October meeting, JoAnne Scott will be doing a follow up to our Izzy Doll demo (by Emily Johnston), in which we will complete the stuffing and sewing of the Izzy dolls. Bring your knitted doll shape, and a tapestry needle, as well as any yarn that you may need (JoAnne is generously proving the stuffing.
